Hi, I’m Surabhi!

If you’re unfamiliar with how to pronounce my name, click here for a brief video guide.

I’m an Orthopaedic and Pelvic Physiotherapist with 12+ years experience. I’m also a Pregnancy & Postpartum Fitness Coach & a mom to 2 incredible humans. I’m passionate about educating and empowering folks to understand and believe in their bodies and their capacity to heal. I aim to foster a trauma-sensitive space for you to feel seen, heard and cared for through life’s major transitions including pregnancy, postpartum and parenthood. I help you get strong, gain confidence, and feel more in control of your body, regardless of the symptoms and conditions you have.

TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY

You are strong, capable, and resilient! You are not defined by your injury, diagnosis or symptoms. I use a whole-person approach to help you get strong, return to fitness postpartum, get active after injuries, and manage pain and pelvic floor symptoms. I respect and honour the impact your culture, religion, gender, sexual orientation and ethnicity have on you. I support many peoples from marginalized communities including Black, Indigenous & other racialized peoples, LGBTQ2S+ folks and people of all shapes and sizes. I provide mentorship for fellow practitioners as well. I work at dismantling hustle, grind and burnout in healthcare & biz.

“The worst thing we do to each other as women is not share the truth about our bodies & how they work.” -Michelle Obama

Physiotherapy and fitness coaching for pregnant and postpartum people, using evidence-informed approach, clinical expertise and passion.

MISSION & VISION

Mission: to provide pelvic & orthopaedic physiotherapy & fitness coaching to improve the individual’s quality of life and participation in the activities they enjoy most. With a passion for prenatal and postpartum health and dance, the aim is to create a community where the client feels seen, heard, validated and empowered to take care of their whole self, including their physical fitness and mental health. Combining an evidence-informed approach with high-level education, clinical expertise, and compassion, the aim is to teach people movement, behavioural & mindfulness strategies to maximize strength, confidence and pleasure!

Vision: to empower, uplift and encourage women to optimize physical and mental well-being through movement, mindfulness, and self-care.

Experiencing pain and symptoms has helped me to become more compassionate, patient and resilient. I value my health and taking good care of myself, and I help you do the same.

PASSION FOR MOVEMENT

Movement is medicine! I grew up in India practicing yoga and dancing Bharatanatyam. After moving to Canada in my tweens, I discovered my love for endurance sport. I swam, ran cross country and track through high school, competed in varsity Nordic skiing through university, and got into road cycling, ultimate frisbee, and rock climbing in my 20s.

Now in my late 30s, I absolutely love lifting weights and Bollywood dance! I’ve performed at 6 major Indian and Desi festivals across Toronto and feel like I’m just getting started! Aging can be tough on the body, but it doesn’t have to be. Having had my fair share of injuries in almost every part of my body, I’ve learned to be more disciplined and patient with my body, and the importance of a consistent movement practice, rest and self-care.

Ditch the mom guilt and pressure to do it all. Practice presence, gratitude and mindfulness.

PERSONAL VALUES

I used to pride myself on being busy and “doing it all”… but after numerous episodes of burnout and depression, I learned that my body is not disposable, even if capitalism treats it as such. I needed to truly take care of myself. Through self-reflection, therapy, reading, and healing community spaces, I’ve reconnected with pleasure, presence and play. I value connecting with family and friends, practicing mindfulness and gratitude, and embodying self-love through daily actions. I aspire to live within my values, and often find myself going against social norms. In my home, my husband does the cooking and his fair share of childcare, and I don’t feel guilty about that. I’m a proud immigrant, and love celebrating my beautiful Indian culture. I’m a lifelong vegetarian and consider myself a foodie (prefer eating over cooking tho!). I love to dance, learn new things, and may be the most extroverted introvert you’ll ever meet.

PLANTING SEEDS

I believe that everyone should have access to quality education about their bodies. This is why I share tons of free content on my social media, blog, Mom Strength podcast, and email newsletter. I use my platforms to amplify voices of Black, Brown & Indigenous peoples, LGBTQ2S+ communities and anyone who is under-represented in mainstream health, fitness and wellness spaces. I often discuss challenging topics including diet culture, gender norms and race.

Representation, equity and justice are important pillars within my personal and professional life. As I work to unlearn the systems of white supremacy colonial culture, patriarchy, and capitalism within my personal and professional life, I lean more into my own internal values, cultural and ancestral wisdom.

As Rabindranath Tagore once said (or so I hear): “The one who plants trees, knowing that they will never sit in their shade, has at least started to understand the meaning of life.” And that’s what I’m out here doing - planting seeds.
