New year, same you!

Hi friends!

It’s a brand new year, so first off, Happy New Year! If you’re one of the many people who is relieved to see this year, I’m with you.

However, I can’t fully hate on 2020. After all, it was a year of huge growth for me. Literally and figuratively. My body grew and birthed a beautiful baby boy, who is now smiling, giggling and brings so much happiness and joy into our lives. As a family, we gained more time together, for which I am forever grateful. And through the trials and tribulations of last year, I learned more courage. More resilience. More patience. Self-compassion. Acceptance. I found a community that understands me, supports me and inspires me (that includes you reading this!). This is what I take forward with me into 2021.

Last year, I decided to start the Passionate Physio. Why? You see, over the past decade of working as a Physiotherapist, I have noticed a huge void in women’s health. While I love inspiring ALL people to be active, I found that women especially lacked support during pregnancy and once they became mothers. What exercises to do? How to get back to sports? How to gain strength and confidence in their bodies? And add to that, there was no village to support them. They had less time for themselves, they took less care of themselves, they struggled with self-doubt, anxiety and completely unrealistic societal pressures. I saw pain and persistent injuries in women who told me they were previously very fit or athletic. They felt broken and betrayed by their bodies. They bought into quick-fix exercise and weight loss programs. Programs that led them to believe that their bodies were inadequate just as they are.

And after I became a mother in 2018, I became one of those statistics myself. With no guidance or warning, I entered motherhood lost, confused, and insecure. I experienced loneliness. I didn’t know who I was anymore or who I was supposed to be. Beyond gentle postpartum strengthening, I was stuck with my fitness and hadn’t returned to running, rock climbing or most of the sports I had participated in before. As I learned to prioritize myself again, through exercise and REAL self-care, I not only gained strength, but I gained more and more confidence as a mother, and most importantly, I gained compassion for myself.

This is what drove me to create the Passionate Physio. I’m so excited to share what I’ve learned, both professionally and personally. I want us all to live our best, most-fulfilled lives, and I really believe that we can. I show you how and why to move your body effectively and efficiently (because we don’t have all day). I want to teach you the importance of self-care, not just the occasional manicure or spa day (although that can be nice) but self-care as a DAILY practice. I want to inspire you to adapt a positive mindset. Let me be your cheerleader, until you can be your own.

So this new year, you don’t need to become a brand new person. You are not broken! You are worthy, not despite of you, but BECAUSE of you. I believe in myself. And I believe in you!

Thank you for being here with me. I’m honoured to have had conversations with many of you, and I look forward to many more conversations. I have big things planned for you this year! My Postpartum Exercise Program kicks off at the end of the month. Get on the waitlist here! My prenatal programs will start soon after as well. I’ll share more details to my email list, so if you haven’t already, make sure you sign up for my newsletter here!

Happy New Year, friends!

Much love,

Surabhi
