Do your goals end after becoming a mom?
Postpartum rehab seems to just hit on the basic stuff - Kegels, core "activation" exercises, clamshells, monster walks, maybe a few bird dogs. There's a time and place for all that. But is that enough to meet all your goals?
First off, that's not even enough to meet just mom life demands, never mind anything beyond that!
Have you tried wrangling a toddler into a carseat or dashing after them when they're about to pull a flower vase down? π· You need strength, agility and speed for that! πͺπ½β‘
How about beyond mom life? What do you want to get back to? What do you enjoy? And what do you want your activities to look like long-term?
Short-term, I want to be able to do cartwheels, handstands, pull-ups, burpees, sit-ups.πͺπ½ I want to be able to hike, ski, bike, run. I want to be able to try a spin class or a game of ultimate, and be confident I'm not going to pass out or pee myself.
Long-term? I want to be able to play with my grandkids. I want to be able to take them swimming or biking and not just sit on the sidelines looking in. I want to enjoy bike trips π΄π½ββοΈ with my husband and go surfing π in Costa Rica.
We can never predict or control our outcomes and there are so many external factors that can play into it. All we can control is our actions. Each day, each week, each year we take actions that get us closer to or further away from our goals.
Today I led my PREP class, did a 5 minute yoga flow and practiced headstands for the first time since having kids! It felt challenging but so good!
