28 Days to form a new habit!
When taking on a new habit, whether it comes to getting outside, getting exercise in, or going to bed earlier, I find that it is far easier to want to do it than ACTUALLY do it. Our intentions are there, but our action isn't. My goal was to get outside every single day for 28 days over the last month. Did I do it? Heck yes!❄️
This is what helped me achieve my goal:
1️⃣Start small - My goal wasn't to do 30 minutes outside. It was literally just to get outside. Taking the pressure off the length of time really helped, so I didn’t feel guilty when I lasted only 5 minutes!
2️⃣Be consistent - I debated taking a day off. But I knew it was FAR easier to just stay consistent, and do a little every day, than it was to try to get back into a routine after skipping a day, or two days, or three.
3️⃣Remind myself why - why did I want to get outside? I obviously love getting outside, so reminding myself WHY I was doing it was important when I just didn't feel like getting the kids ready. Here are some reasons I wanted to do it:
❄️I love the fresh air.
❄️I love getting bits of sunlight.🌞
❄️I love playing in the snow.
❄️I love getting some peace and quiet.
❄️I love that the kids are in better moods too.👧🏾
SO many reasons! Getting started and out the door is the hardest part, so when I’m trying to give myself excuses, the first thing I do is to remind myself WHY.
4️⃣Accountability & support - I announced my intentions on Instagram. I told my family and friends. There were multiple times where I didn’t want to go out, and it was 9 PM and I was nice and cozy at home in my PJs. But my husband motivated me to just get out the door, even if it was only for a few minutes. And many of you reached out with support online too! All the encouragement really helped when I wasn’t feeling so motivated myself!
5️⃣Celebrate each win – I took a picture each day I went out and I shared it on Instagram. As I celebrated each little win, I felt supported and encouraged, and that was a wonderful feeling to kept me going.
Ultimately, the world would not have ended if I didn’t meet my goal. But still, I’m happy I did it. I’m proud that I stuck to all 28 days. I’m grateful for all those who kept me accountable, and those who I felt were cheering me on.👏🏽
