How wide is my diastasis recti? Will my abdominal gap ever close?

"How wide is my diastasis gap? Will my gap close?"

These are questions I get ALL the time.

Here's what you need to know:

✴️The actual WIDTH of your gap matters less than the DEPTH. Less depth = better, even if the gap itself is wider!

✴️Your gap may feel wider when you're relaxed eg lying on your back. But your gap is likely smaller when you're moving eg squatting, lifting, crunching, bending, twisting. Measuring your gap just when you're lying down on your back doesn't give you a full picture.

✴️There is no guarantee that your gap will ever fully close. Even with all the collagen shakes and exercises. I know that can be hard to hear, and I don't like that fact either. But it's true.

✴️Your "mummy tummy" or "mommy pooch" doesn't mean you have a diastasis. Diastasis gets blamed when it's just a combination of fat, loose skin and loose fascia. Bloat, constipation, fatigue, lack of sleep all add to the appearance of a belly too.

✴️There is nothing wrong with a belly that sticks out even if society has conditioned you to believe it's a problem.

✴️Strengthening your whole body is always a good answer!

🤔And of course the other question: What's a normal gap?

It depends! Different amounts are stated in research studies. Ideally we would know what YOUR baseline is pre-kids to make a reliable conclusion postpartum. But most people haven't even heard the term diastasis until they have kids!

‼️You can be strong, functional, sexy and worthy even if you have a diastasis or a belly.

❓Do you have diastasis? Where are you in your body acceptance journey?
