Enter: The Mafia

One Friday in late December, I hopped onto an IG live with Dr. Shanté Cofield @themovementmaestro. I had been following her for a while on IG, and I loved everything she was about. Her personality, her business and Instagram tips, her honesty, and her way of integrating business into life advice. On the IG live, she was talking about her Mafia, which until then I had never heard of. At the end of the live, I was like, I NEED THIS COMMUNITY! I’m quite decisive, so I knew I had to be part of this. There wasn’t much hesitation. But the biggest barrier the fact that I had a 2 month old and a 2.5 year old at home. As I sat there breastfeeding my baby, I thought about how I could make this happen. I wanted to be able to attend the meetings (the family dinners), I wanted to learn from Shanté and her community. Could I do this? I reached out to Takisha August, who was also attending the IG live, and introduced myself. I chatted with her asking if she was going to sign up for the Mafia, and said I was thinking about it. I am so grateful for connecting with Takisha that night, because we both decided to take the step and join the Mafia!

My first Mafia dinner was amazing, I took a bajillion notes and was in awe at this community of stoked, inspiring people who are all so supportive of each other. I had the chance to do a Hot Seat during my second dinner, and it was so awesome. I was so nervous to speak, and sweating buckets before my turn. After sharing my plan, and seeing the amazing and supportive reaction from the Mafia fam, I was floored. They had just met me and just heard what I wanted to do, and immediately believed in me! How were these strangers more supportive than my oldest friends?! I knew then that these were my people. They were all doing the same thing within their respective fields and communities, so they just got it!

I knew then and there that my word for 2021 had to be BELIEVE. Believe in myself. Believe in others. Believe in things working out over time. Believe that what’s meant to be will be. Believe that I can make my dreams come true. Believe that I don’t have to do it all this minute.

2020 wrapped up with me learning how to get my first launch into gear. I felt even more inspired.

I believed.
