Should you let your knees go past your toes when squatting?

Your πŸ‘πŸ½ knees πŸ‘πŸ½ are πŸ‘πŸ½ allowed πŸ‘πŸ½ to πŸ‘πŸ½ go πŸ‘πŸ½ past πŸ‘πŸ½ your πŸ‘πŸ½ toes!

Knees are supposed to bend. ALL the way. And that includes bending to to past your toes when you squat!

Do you walk down stairs, down hills, or reach way back in your bottom cupboard? Yes? Then you've already been squatting with your knees past your toes!

You may have heard this myth told to you by your trainer, physio, doctor, coach, etc but this is seriously outdated information. Many people with knee pain are also told to avoid letting knees slide forward past toes, as if somehow that will fix the pain... But it only restricts you and makes you feel like you can't move normally.

For example, many Asians can do full squats allowing knees to to past toes. And they do this well into their old age! Why? Because they practice it in their lifestyle! In the Western / North American lifestyle, chairs are the norm. We poop on toilets vs squatting toilets. And many adults and older adults struggle to get up and down off the floor without using their hands! πŸ™€

But if you practice squatting and bending your knees, getting up and down off the floor, you allow your knees to strengthen in their full range of motion! This helps to keep your joints healthier AND helps your hips and knees get stronger!

❓Have you been told not to let your knees go past your toes during squats? I know I have! πŸ™‹πŸ½β€β™€οΈ
