Will losing weight fix my pain? Will weight loss help my injury?

Do you need to lose weight to feel better? 🤔

Do you know how frustrating it is to hear that your doctor or trainer or dentist or whomever told you to lose weight to help your symptoms? Weight loss isn't a pill. It's not a diet. It's not a lifestyle. Weight loss can be a RESULT of a diet or lifestyle change.

Perhaps you start going to therapy and heal through trauma. Perhaps you do less emotional eating as a result. And perhaps you lose weight! But the issue wasn't the weight - it was the unhealed trauma.

Perhaps you've been sleep-deprived and stressed since having a baby or experiencing a loss, and your cortisol and stress response have been through the roof. Perhaps you're holding on to more weight because of that. But the issue wasn't the weight - it was the lack of sleep and unregulated stress response.

Perhaps you haven't exercised since having kids and you start moving your body and strength training. And perhaps you lose weight as a result. But the issue wasn't the weight - it was the lack of movement and exercise.

So let's get down to the REAL cause of your body feeling icky, instead of blaming the weight, shall we?

Many of my clients have goals to move better and feel stronger, and reach active goals. And some also have a side goal to lose weight.

Weight loss may be a goal for you - and that's a valid goal. But let's just be clear that pure weight loss has nothing to do with you "feeling" better or moving better - and it has everything to do with your body image, sense of self-worth, social and cultural norms, and the work of diet culture.
